Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area (Piscataquis County)

The Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area is a 46,271 acre reserve owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy.  I hiked the Rainbow Loop Trail to Horserace Pond.  This is a well-maintained and well-marked 4.25 mile trail with 540 feet of elevation gain as it travels through forests, past streams and adjacent to and between glacial erratics before reaching Horserace Pond.  The weather was perfect - 65 and sunny - and I saw only two people during the entire hike.  Here is a map of my hike.
