Hidden Valley Nature Center (Jefferson)
I had an errand to run in Whitefield so decided to hike at nearby Hidden Valley Nature Center (HVNC). It's been a few years since I've been to HVNC, and the Midcoast Conservancy has made several changes to the properry, including building a new contact center near the entrance and changing some of its policies around overnight rentals (they've been put on hold) and public use of its canoes (no longer permitted).
After my tick incident yesterday at Moosehorn NWR, I appreciated HVNC's wide, well-maintained trails. I visited the Bog Boardwalk and hiked the Crossbill, Warbler's Way, and Little Dyer Pond Trails to the Pond Cabin. Crossbill and Warbler's Way are traditional hiking trails, whereas the Little Dyer Pond Trail is a dirt road.
This was an enjoyable hike and I pretty much had HVNC to myself, despite sunny weather in the 70's. Here is a map of my hike.
