Bear Sighting at Sunkhaze NWR, Carter Meadow Trail
I went hiking after work today on the Carter Meadow Trail at Sunkhaze National Wildlife Refuge. From the parking lot, this is slightly less than a 3 mile hike and like every time I've hiked here, I had the trail to myself today. The hike was enjoyable, but unfortunately there were several downed trees across the trail, primarily on the portion of the trail to the right of the cabin (see map below).
As I was heading out on the final section of the hike, I spotted a black bear standing on the trail in front of me. Unfortunately, the dark woods combined with the bear's distance and fast movement meant I was only able to get a blurry picture of it.
Here is a map of my hike.
An observation platform overlooks the refuge.
Sorry about the blurriness, but the black object on the trail is the bear.

The shorter trail to the right of "You Are Here" had many trees down.
I came across this. It was pretty, but looked staged and not natural.
