Great Head Trail (Acadia National Park)
We went hiking on the Great Head Trail in Acadia today. This was an unexpectedly fun trail and more challenging than the NPS's website led us to believe (admittedly I missed the part about "rocky scrambles".)
We started at the Sand Beach parking, crossed the beach and a small stream, and headed up a set of stairs into a coastal forest. There were several spots throughout the hike that required scrambling up rock ledges and although none were particularly hard it added a sense of play to the hike. The trail provides great views of the rugged coastline. Ruins from the foundation of an old tower remain on Great Head itself.
This is a map of our hike.
