Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (Massachusetts)
I visited the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Massachusetts on my home from New York. When I last visited Parker River, we did not have enough time to check out all of the trails, so I returned to hike the Stage Island Trail and the Parking Lot 2 Boardwalk.
The easy 1.7 mile (round-trip) Stage Island Trail leads to Ipswitch Bluff, a slightly elevated section of land that overlooks Plum Island Sound. The trail is on the south end of the refuge and, at least today, wasn't seeing the same level of visitation as the rest of the refuge (there were many people at the refuge enjoying temperatures in the high 50's). A pair of egrets flew overhead as I hiked the trail.
The 0.2 mile Parking Lot 2 Boardwalk (0.4 round-trip) provides access to a cross-section of dunes (including a small pond) and an ocean beach.
Here is a map of my walks today.
