Day Mountain and Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park
Last Friday we went to Day Mountain in Seal Harbor in Acadia National Park. This is relatively short, easy hike with nice 360 degree views of the island and park area. Its lightly traveled and well maintained. Park in the lot off of Route 3 and carefully cross the road to the trailhead on the other side. A short hike on a narrow trail will bring you to one of the park's carriage roads. From there, you have the option of continuing along the trail or taking the carriage road.
On this trip, we chose the carriage road to the top due to icy conditions on the trail. Fortunately we brought spikes and snowshoes so were prepared for varying terrain.
From Day Mountain, we elected to continue on to Jordan Pond, initially along the carriage roads and later on park roadways.
Jordan Pond, usually packed in the summer time, was deserted and we had the place to ourselves.
The total round trip hike was 7.6 miles, during which we saw four other people.

After spending the day hiking on ice, we found this to be very funny.
