Kane Path, Acadia National Park
I was in Bar Harbor for work this afternoon and when I finished I realized I had an hour of sunlight left to explore nearby Acadia.
Parking off Route 3 a short distance from downtown, I hiked the relatively flat Kane Trail, which runs along the west side of The Tarn and then Canon Brook and has great views of Champlain Mountain.
The hike was relatively easy, except a short section with large boulders that was challenging due to a combination of ice and exposed rock which was hard to navigate with ice cleats on. I bypassed that section on the return trip by walking along the frozen shoreline of The Tarn. The total hike was approximately 2.2 miles. Ice cleats were a necessity.
